Mi Vida

Life is good. I was chatting with the hubby the other day, and he said something that was not only the sweetest thing, but also made me realize something. He said "For the first time in a long time, I feel happy and am enjoying life." He's a med school student and studies all the time! But ever since we've been married (almost 2 months now), we wake up with each other every morning, kiss each other goodbye, get through the work day and come home to one another where we cook dinner together, watch TV, work out, kiss each other good night and fall asleep next to each other. And on the weekends, we have even more fun hanging out with friends, grabbing drinks, watching movies and working around the house. Sounds simple, but it is our life and we like it...scratch that...we love it. And I realized that for the first time in 4 years, I'm no longer living for the weekends. I now enjoy every day. And I appreciate what I have rather than wishing for what I don't have. Sure, I'd love to have...nope...can't think of a thing. I'm content. Not only do I have a loving, heavenly Father, but He has blessed me with a loving husband, now two wonderful families and thoughtful, caring friends. And that is really all I need. Love.

And one more...just because

The movie "UP" is a great movie...I don't care what the hubs says. It brings out so many emotions - laughter, sadness, love, fear, etc. But, Doug the talking dog is one of my faves. So here are two more clips from "UP" just because...

"Marriage is not a noun; it's a verb. It isn't something you get. It's something you do. It's the way you love your partner every day." ~ Barbara De Angelis

A year ago today...

The hubby realized he washed his passport in his pants and our dream vacation/engagement in Ireland almost never happened...Thank God for fast flights to Dallas, compassionate government workers (yes, they do exist!) and a determined boyfriend turned husband.

Feelin' Blue

Part of the fun of being married is decorating, and the hubby actually has good taste! We bicker here and there, but we always find a common ground. Presently, we are trying to decorate our boudoir. Of course, the room is blue, of course! The wood is dark so we were trying to lighten up the room with a neutral comforter, and I think we've finally decided on a comforter from Crate & Barrel. We want to add some more fun colors to the room, so I thought why not sass it up with some bright pillows from Pier 1. Not too shabby if I do say so myself...Hooray for colors and patterns!

Favorites :: 4th of July

I love summer, especially the 4th of July! When I was a little girl, I would excitedly wait for the day, as if it were Christmas. I felt like there was magic in the day. From the fireworks and sparklers to the fire flies, I could feel some kind of mystery swirling in the hot, summer air.

My greatest memories from my childhood are filled with gatherings at friends' houses to eat BBQ, patriotic-decorated desserts and strawberries and watermelon, dressing up in red, white and blue, swimming in our pool, going to the state capitol lawn to lie on a blanket and watch fireworks, playing with sparklers and catching fire flies. And I can't forget to mention ending the night with a game of "kick the can," a popular game amongst the neighborhood children. Kick the can was very similar to hide and seek, but with a can. The "seeker" had to kick the can, count to 20, run and bring the can back, and then begin searching for the "hiders." The hiders had to run to the street sign and tag it without being caught. The game would last for hours, and it was sooo much fun, for us country folk, at least ;)

This 4th of July, I will be driving home from a wedding that is 9 hours away, trying to make it home in time to spend it with the hubby and hoping to experience the magic of the 4th of July with him. Send prayers my way for safe travels, pretty please!
